What Mediation Can Do For You.

Our mediation services allow you to settle your divorce without ever having to go to court. The resulting divorce settlement is both legally binding and recognized by the court — in other words, it’s a “real” divorce. At the Center for Divorce Mediation, we will:

Negotiate an interim separation agreement, including

       •   who will stay in the house
       •   how your joint expenses will be handled
       •   when the children with be with each of you

Help you work out the final divorce settlement, including

       •   support arrangements
       •   division of assets and debts
       •   plan for parenting that ensures each of you the
opportunity for a continued relationship with your
           children

Prepare and file all paperwork with the court on your behalf, saving you time and effort.

Mediation offers what divorce courts can’t.

Increasing numbers of people are turning to mediation as a viable, affordable and more equitable alternative to settling their divorces in court. And for good reason. Mediation provides a legally binding divorce settlement, just as the court does. Mediation, however, also provides a number of advantages the court simply can’t.

The Center for Divorce Mediation will work to maximize these advantages and settle your divorce quickly, cost-effectively, with greater civility, dignity and care. Let us help you:

Work Together
During mediation, both parties negotiate from the same side of the table rather than opposing sides of a courtroom. In a supportive, informal atmosphere, we will work together to shape an agreement you both can live with. No hostility, no antagonism, just open dialog that sets the tone for your future relationship. This civil relationship is especially important when children are involved.

Save Time
As opposed to a prolonged court battle, our mediation services can typically resolve key divorce issues — such as property, custody and spousal/child support — within a few weeks.

Save Money
According to a recent study featured in The Boston Globe, mediation can cut the cost of divorce by 50% or more. What’s more, our mediation services can help you with tax planning to minimize tax impact — an advantage the court doesn’t offer.

Customize Your Settlement
Unlike courts that strictly adhere to the letter of the law, we have the flexibility to customize a divorce settlement based on your individual situation and needs. We’ll help you identify what is really important to you, and craft an agreement that recognizes this.

Say When
Don’t worry about taking time off work to meet an inconvenient court date. We’ll schedule your mediation appointments at times that work best for you.

Protect Your Privacy
Mediation allows you to settle your divorce in a private, comfortable setting — away from the exposure and anxiety of a courtroom setting.

Trust Your Mediator
We act as neutral advocates for the interests of both parties. In working with the Center for Divorce Mediation, rest assured that we will be forthright, open and impartial to help you come to a mutual agreement.

Keep Us in Mind
A divorce is by no means the end of your relationship. As issues continue to arise after your divorce is finalized, you can continue to turn to our mediation services for equitable resolutions.

What to look for in a mediator.

Ideally, your mediator should be highly trained and experienced, an active member of professional organizations, and continually undergoing professional training. At the Center for Divorce Mediation, we also offer extensive legal experience to anticipate any legal issues and ensure every possibility is accounted for. Our strong professional relationships with appraisers, CPAs, therapists and other professionals provide additional valuable resources for our clients.

How to begin and what to expect.

We’ve designed our mediation process to provide the most convenience and make the best use of your time. Typically, we are able to help most of our clients resolve their divorce settlement issues within one or two office visits. Here’s how to get started and what to expect.

Talk To Us
Simply pick up the phone and make an appointment, or contact us through this web site.

Office Visits
Both parties come to our comfortable, private offices where we begin by identifying and discussing the key issues. Appointments are typically scheduled once a week to allow participants time between visits to reflect. Each office visit is under two hours.

Securing the Forms
We obtain and present you with all the necessary legal forms required by court, ensuring that nothing is overlooked. During your office visit, we will review the forms to make sure you understand them. We can also help you complete the forms right there, or you can take them with you to complete at your convenience.

Resolving the Issues
Once we’ve identified the issues, we begin work to resolve them. In addition to mediation and legal guidance, we also offer assistance with appraisals, pension funds, tax evaluations and other items that may arise.

Draft an Agreement
After drafting an agreement both parties can live with, we make sure you both have the opportunity to thoroughly review and consider the agreement before signing it. Once the agreement is signed, we then send it to court where it is processed and the divorce is finalized.

Divorce is never easy. But at the Center for Divorce Mediation, we’ll do everything we can to get your lives back in order, as quickly, cost-effectively and painlessly as possible.

"We fought over everything, from how to make an omelet to how to make money. Neither of us could be right without the other's being wrong. We were never a team. We didn't know how to resolve our differences. Through mediation, I became more detached, more businesslike with her. It was much easier." — Mark D.
